Adam 12 2023

"9-1-1 Emergency, how can I help you?"

"It's my son. He's not supposed to be here," the woman on the other end of the line yelled. There was obvious panic in her voice.

"What's going on?"

A loud banging noise and indistinct yelling can be heard over the phone.

"He got in somehow. He was crazy. I pushed him and ran to the bathroom. I'm barricading the door. He's trying to get in."

"STOP!" the woman cries out. She wasn't talking to the dispatcher.

"What's your name?"

"Louise Spencer."

"What's your address?"

"1604 Drivewood Boulevard"

The dispatcher could hear another loud bang and then the phone went dead.

---

"One Adam Twelve, One Adam Twelve. Four fifteen in progress. Sixteen Oh Four Drivewood Boulevard. Handle Code 3."

In the patrol car, Officer Malloy turned on the sirens and pressed the gas pedal harder, as Officer Reed wrote down the address.

They drove down the dark Los Angeles streets until they pulled up to the entrance. They ran to the door of the ranch-style apartment. At this time of the late evening, the pair couldn't make out the color of the house, but it was definitely a light shade.

The officers exited the car and hustled to the door. Reed arrived at the door first. He waited two seconds for Malloy to arrive.

"You had better give it back to me!" the officers heard a man call out from inside the house.

Malloy banged on the door with the heel of his closed fist three times. "OPEN UP, POLICE!" he shouted.

The screaming inside continued.

Reed took several steps to the right to look inside a window. He saw a young man, approximately eighteen years old sitting on the chest of a middle-aged woman. He was holding her down with his hands. Both the man and woman were on the floor. Reed recognized that no one was making any attempt to open the door for them.

Malloy continued to bang on the door with the heel of his closed right fist.

"Kick it!" Reed called out to Malloy.

Malloy backed up two steps and then lunged for the door with his right foot. The door's bolt gave under the pressure of Malloy's foot. The door sprang open. Reed entered the house before Malloy did.

Inside, Reed had a better look at the house's occupants. A woman was lying on her back face up. She was in her late thirties, possibly forty years old. Her sandy brown hair was scattered around her face. She wore a white blouse with three-quarter-length sleeves and a pair of blue jeans. She wasn't wearing any shoes.

Sitting on the woman's stomach was a young man in his late teens. He was wearing a navy T-shirt with white shorts with thin black vertical stripes. He also had sandy brown hair although it was much shorter than the woman's. He was leaning forward, restraining the woman's arms with his hands.

"Swap with me!" the boy yelled.

When the woman saw Reed enter the house, she started to scream. "HELP ME! He's crazy!"

Reed continued into the house, grabbed the man by the shoulders, and pulled him off the woman.

Once free, the woman ran to Malloy who had entered the house after Reed.

"She's crazy! Get her out of here!"

The man broke free from Reed and headed toward the woman again. Malloy intercepted him. Reed took the man from the back. Between the two of them, they had the man restrained. Reed didn't have to be told; he administered the handcuffs with Malloy's help. The man kept struggling.

"Give me my body back!" the man screamed as he tried to pull away from the officers.

Reed and Malloy carried the restrained man out of the house and to the patrol car. The man didn't stop struggling for one moment. They forced him into the back, screaming all the way.

"He has it. He has my body. I want it back!" the man yelled.

Inside the car, the man didn't let up fighting. When he tried to thrash around and break the window, Reed and Malloy had to apply leg restraints.

"Let's give him a few minutes to calm down before talking to him," Malloy stated.

"Yeah."

The pair worked so well together that they didn't have to tell each other what to do next. Malloy returned to the house. Reed stayed outside to watch the arrested man in the patrol car.

When Malloy to the housereturned, the woman was sitting at a table. Malloy could see that the top button of her blouse had been ripped off. She was looking at her hands and wrists. She looked at the back of her hands and then turned them over to look at her palms and then turned them over again.
